Joe Dayton Duncan, Sr., 75, retired employee of Columbia Gas Systems and resident of Old State Road in Hampshire, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Burial in the Worley Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Robert Ewing Duncan, Sr. and the late Alice Josephine Morrow Duncan. He was a graduate of Hampshire High School. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1962 – 1968. Mr. Duncan served on the Maury County Commission from 1998 – 2006. He was a private pilot and was Chairman of Maury County Airport Authority. He was a member of Cathey's Creek Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife whom he married March 6, 1970, Rebecca Jones Duncan of Hampshire; son, Joe (Joannie) Duncan, II of Hohenwald; grandchildren, Amber (Tim) Warren, Caleb Duncan, Jacob Duncan, Lucas Duncan; sisters, Bobbie Harmon of Columbia, Sue Hurt of Michigan; brothers, R. E. Duncan, Jr. of Hickman County, Donald Duncan of Columbia, Ronald Duncan of Columbia; sister-in-law, Era Pryne Pruitt of Mt. Pleasant; and brothers-in-law, Jonathan (Marti) Jones, Mark (Nancy) Jones, and Luke Jones, all of Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Duncan; and sister, Dorothy Armstrong, Betsy Goodwin, and Jackie Dugger.

Honorary pallbearers will include Gene Ray Baxter, Dr. Paul Perryman, and Dr. James Marshall.
