AUBURN | Blanche Irene Smith, 87, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at The Commons. Irene was born in Tully, N.Y., the daughter of the late George and Blanche Bigsby Brier. She was a member of the Auburn United Methodist Church for many years. Irene was a medical secretary for the late Charles C. B. Richards M.D., and Dieter Eppel D.O.
Surviving are her sons, Floyd C. Smith and his wife, Susan, of Owasco, and Mark S. Smith and his wife, Patricia, of Moravia; brothers, Harold Brier and his wife, Elizabeth, of Sennett, Frank Brier and his wife, Gay, of Oregon, Carlton Brier and his wife, Donna, of Cayuga, and Richard Brier, of Florida; sisters, Dorothy Richards, of Florida, Shirley Walters, of Auburn, and Frances Schoeck, of Jamesville; grandchildren, Melissa Sevier, Candice Smith, and Jacqueline Smith; great-grandchildren, Garrett Sevier, Grace Sevier, Emma Rose Smith Dennis, and Lyric Marie Reid.
In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her husband, Floyd L. Smith.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at the Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 in the Auburn United Methodist Church, 99 South St., Auburn, NY 13021. Burial will take place in the Tully Cemetery, Tully, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021 or the Auburn United Methodist Church, in memory of Blanche Irene Smith.
Gravesite Details As a child Irene's father worked at Highland Forest, Fabius and the family lived in a house on the property. The only thing left is part of a foundation & chimney.
