Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Hargrave officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard of Marshalltown.
Bob was born on May 3rd, 1924, in Marshalltown, the son of Leo and Jett (Suell) Johnson. He served our country honorably in the United States Army from August of 1943 until October of 1945.
Prior to enlistment in the armed forces, he was united in marriage to Shirley Bell Matney on December 21st, 1942, in Gilman, IA. They made their home in Marshalltown where he was employed with Burke Distributing and Anderson Distributing.
Bob enjoyed camping and collecting coins. He will also be fondly remembered for his orneriness.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter-in-law, Beth Johnson, of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren: Rebecca Johan Meier and Megan Marie (Dan) Stephan, all of Lenoir City, TN; Courtney Jo Carmody (Kevin) Kedzierski, of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren: Christopher John Meier, Hayley Marie Meier, Kelsey Lynn Fessler, Jacob Ryan Johnson, Allison Leslie (Tyran) Harrison, Kole Johnson Kedzierski, Brady Kedzierski and great-grandchildren: Lilianna Grace Meier, Kaliyah Rose Fessler, Carson Wade and Nolan Wade. He is also survived by siblings: Joyce (H. Ray) Morlan and Jerry (Beth) Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews and many other family members.
In death, Bob rejoined his parents, wife Bell; son Bobbie and siblings: Louise, Dick, Don and Hazel.
