Ruben migrated from Mississippi to Hamtramck, Michigan In the late 40’s with his family, not long after the family moved to the North End of Detroit on 9212 and 9214 Cameron and that is where the Williams village raised their children.

Ruben gained employment at the McDonalds Dairy embracing the fact that he was among the working class in Detroit. He loved it and often talked about it.

Ruben joined the United States Army In 1952, and served in the Korean War, where he was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon, the Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Metal and the Combat Medical Badge he was honorable discharged in October of 1954.

In 1955 Ruben was employed by GM. For 32 years, he worked for Cadillac Motors catching the bus to his job with perfect attendance until he retired in 1987.

A true Detroit Tigers fan. Even though they were losing, the other team at bat, bases loaded 12 to 2 in the 9th inning he cheered them on,

Ruben’s favorite past time was playing cards with anyone (watch him, he’ll cheat), eating good food, and going to church. Later in his life he accepted Christ as his personal Savior, and did not let the troubles of this world bother him, his words were, Hold on to God’s unchanging hands”, and that is what he did.

Ruben was the giver. He gave to any and every one who needed anything. He would give away things that you bought for him and would say, ”That person doesn’t have what we have, and we can get another one”. He was the most unselfish person with that heart of gold.

Ruben closed his eyes on July 4th, 2017, knowing that he would once again be in the presence of his parents and siblings. Rest peacefully Chicken the battle is over.

His memory will be cherished by the only sibling left his sister, Essie Williams of Fairburn, Georgia, his devoted niece Bernadette Holloway( Ron) 11 Nieces; Joann Burton, Arnette, Victoria, Sherrol, Deborah, Doris(Odell) of Georgia, Kimberly, Iris, Theresa, Joann Youngblood and Nicole, 6 Nephews: Gardell (Carolyn), Odell, Kevin, Ernest (Nancy), Darryl ( Doris) and Dalton and a host if great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, cousins, and and friends. My Priceless Uncle
I Feel No Guilt In Laughter, he knew how much I cared
I feel no sorrow in my smile that he’s not here to share.
I cannot grieve forever; for he would not want me to
Scrap I took care of everything just like he asked me to.
So, I’ll talk about the good times and the mother that we shared
The years we spent together, and the way you showed he cared.
I’ll let the memories surround me, in words someone may say
It will re-captured the time we spent way back in the day.
That brings back so clearly as though you are still here
I’ll let it fill me with the feeling that you are always near.
I will always keep those memories, we will never be apart
For the uncle who is priceless will live forever in my heart.
