Charles Dickenson

ONEONTA — Charles L. Dickenson, 80 years old, of 2 Mitchell St., Oneonta, and formerly of Edmeston, passed away July 21, 2003, in Sidney.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1923, in Burlington Flats, the son of Louis and Nellie (Tuller) Dickenson.
He married Helen VanVranken on Jan. 27, 1961, in Montrose, Pa. She survives.
He was an avid fisherman who loved the out of doors and gardening.
He was a machine operator at Remington Arms in Ilion.
Mr. Dickenson served in Germany during World War II under General George Patton.
He was a lifetime member of the Mohawk Crowley-Barnum Legion Post No. 25, where he was also a past commander, and a past commander of Otsego County and the Edmeston Post 1311.
Mr. Dickenson is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bob Helps of Scotland; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Debra Bailey of West Winfield; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Phyllis Dickenson, West Winfield.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Leslie Dickenson; five brothers, Earl, Frank, Lyman, Louis and Clyde Dickenson; and six sisters, Louella Dickenson, Vivian Crewell, Susan Jacobs, Lucinda Frazier, Emma Marriott and Blanch Crossman.
There will be no services, at the request of Mr. Dickenson.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
