Thomas L. Smith
BUHL — Thomas L. Smith, 73, a former mayor of Buhl, died Monday at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise after a long illness.
Born June 3, 1909, in Blue Springs, Mo., he married Mabel Todd on Sept. 20, 1928, at Castleford.
He had moved to Idaho with his parents in 1917, and graduated from Castleford High School in 1926. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., then moved to Buhl in 1929.
Mr. Smith had worked for Ida-Gem Dairy and Jerome Co-Op before working at Smith's Dairy from 1944 until his retirement in 1974.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church for 53 years. He belonged to the Buhl Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Moose and the Masonic Lodge, No. 53, AF&AM.
He was the mayor of Buhl for two years and had served on Buhl City Council for four years.
Surviving are: a son, Ormond Smith of Buhl; two daughters, Dorothy Dean of Boise and Doris Anderson of Shoshone; a sister, Emma Smith of Boise; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Buhl, with the Rev. Benson Kern officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery at Buhl.
Friends may call at the Farmer Chapel in Buhl on Wednesday until 8 p.m. and until noon on Thursday.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church in Buhl.
