Gilbert Clyde Candler, 78, of Hopkinsville died at his Deepwood Drive home on July 19, 2017, following a long battle with cancer. He was born in the Rolling Mill community near Lamasco in rural Lyon County, Kentucky on May 4, 1939, the third child and oldest son of Gilbert F. and Maud (Gray) Candler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife (1M) Katie Mae (Sowell) Candler, and two sisters, Robbie Morrow and Doris Henderson.

He is survived by his wife (2M): Dora Joanne Candler; his daughter Susette Sadler, his sons: Timothy Candler and Anthony (Jennifer) Candler; his sister Myrtle Harper; his brother Dallas (Cheryl) Candler; 8 grandchildren: Joshua Sadler, Charity Beth Sadler, Kierston Candler, Micah Candler, Maci Candler, Kourtnee Candler, Harley Rose, and Avery Candler; and 4 great-grandchildren: Ayden Sadler, Justice Sadler, Josia Sadler, and Jireh Sadler.

Clyde was a member of Second Baptist Church and a retired purchasing agent for Flynn Enterprises in Hopkinsville. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Rawlins officiating. Burial followed in Flat Lick Cemetery.
