Lorene Delores Adkins

Obituary.......Lorene.....Bacon......Henry.....Adkins Passed away on Friday February 24, 2017, at her home on Henry Hill in Ellington Mo, after reaching the age of 100 years.

Lorene Delores Bacon was born January 23, 1917 to Rollin and Ida Mae Bacon at Ellsinore, Mo.

She lived in Ellington through all her school years.

On November 8, 1936 she married her high school sweetheart, Clyde Frederic Henry of Ellington.

She taught at Roland Hill School from 1939-1940.

In 1941 they moved to Ellington where their son, Fred was born. Their daughter Loretta Cheryl (Sue) was born in 1944.

The family continued to live in Ellington and Lorene continued teaching country schools. She also taught in Springfield, Ellington, and Lesterville. She retired from Lesterville in 1977 but was recycled another 10 years in Ellington, retiring formally in 1987 after 45 years of teaching.

Lorene enjoyed taking part in the youth of the community. She was involved the Girls Scouts and the youth group of the United Methodist Church, of which she was a member.

She was an avid traveler and an amateur gardener. The Main Street flower garden in Ellington was planted under her supervision and was her pride and joy.

Her community volunteer awards included AARP's Woman of Distinction and a citation by Resolution of the House in 2007 when she was in her 80's.

Dearest to her were her family members, but friends, and colleagues and school "kids" were a great part of her life.

Her husband Clyde died in 1962.

In 1985, at an Alumni Banquet, Lorene renewed a friendship with a former schoolmate, Ray Adkins. In June 1986 they were married and lived happily for 16 years on Henry Hill.

Ray died in 2002.

Besides spouses and parents, her family members who preceded her in death were her brother, Basil Bacon, sister-inlaw Ollie, Frieda Herndon, brother-in-law Harley, and nephew Kenneth Herndon.

Those who survive are her son Fred Henry and, daughter-in-law Joyce, daughter Sue Hunt, Granddaughter Holly Keppler and her husband Chuck, Grandson David Hunt and His wife Kris, Grandson Stephen Hunt, and Granddaughter Cara Valdez.
