Frank Byron Burns

3/03/1931 - 7/14/2017

Frank Byron Burns, Jr, 86, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2017 in Clear Lake, TX.

Byron, as he was known to all, was born on March 3, 1931 to parents, Viola Hargett and Frank Byron Burns in Boling, TX. He attended and graduated from Boiling High School in 1949. After graduating from high school he went to Texas A&M University on a football scholarship.

Byron was employed at Texas Gulf Sulfur Co in New Gulf, TX. In 1953, he joined the US Army and honorably served in the Korean War. On August 3, 1957 Bryon married the love of his life, Shirley Anne Gabler.

In 1962, the family moved to Alvin, Texas where Byron was employed by the Monsanto Chemical Company. He stayed with Monsanto until he retired in 1985.

Byron enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He also had a passion for woodworking which led to boat building. Byron stayed active during retirement with several part time jobs. One of the most interesting was parking cars at the Astrodome with his cousin Edward Moritz. Byron truly enjoyed spending time with family from camping at the beach to mowing and taking care of the family farm in East Bernard, TX. He was a wonderful man who will be truly missed.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marie Burns Fertsch.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gabler Burns of 60 years; sons: Russell and wife Becky and Kenneth and wife Lisa; grandchildren: Danielle, Austin and Kayley Burns; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77511, (281) 992-7200.
