On Sunday, July 9 after a massive stroke, Monika Adams passed away with her family at her side.
Monika is survived by her mother, her aunt, numerous other family members, and DEA colleagues who will truly miss her.
Monika Adams had over 25 years of federal service. Monika was assigned to DEA Headquarters and began her career in 1988 as an Office Assistant for the Office of Finance.
She served in several offices, including Chief Counsel Security Programs and Forensic Sciences. In 2010, Monika was reassigned to Human Resources as a Records Assistant. At the time of her death, she was detailed to the Intelligence Division Production Unit.
Monika graduated from the Model Secondary School for the Deaf at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Monika didn't allow her deafness to impede her ability to perform her job or enjoy life. She was a bright and energetic light and an avid teacher of sign language. She was a strong advocate for other deaf employees and fought for their rights, equality and their ability to have the necessary equipment to do their jobs. Monika was proficient in many language and she enjoyed traveling throughout the world.
She will be remembered for her dedication to the DEA mission and commitment to providing quality customer service. She was eager to learn everything she could and was always willing to help when asked. She will be especially remembered for her infectious smile. It is Monika, the coworker that brought us chips and newspapers on a daily basis, the woman with the sharp wit who always shared a funny story, the friend with the brightest smile and the loudest laughter, that her DEA colleagues will miss the most.
