Robert “Bob” Rutledge Quattlebaum, age 90 and Mittie Virginia Perkins Quattlebaum, age 86, passed away just hours apart from one another after suffering from extended illnesses. Mrs. Quattlebaum passed away Sunday evening, July 16, 2017 and her husband passed away just a few hours later on Monday morning July 17, 2017. They had been married for over 66 years.

Mrs. Virginia Quattlebaum was born on July 17, 1930 to the late Devit Leon and Eula Hart Perkins. She was the office manager for Pembroke Propane for over 37 years. Mrs. Quattlebaum was a long- time member of First Baptist Church, Pembroke where she formerly served as Sunday School teacher, nursery coordinator and taught GA’s. She was a member of the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department, served as EMT with Bryan County, was a member of the Pembroke Garden Club, a member of American Legion Auxillary, where she served as Flag President and was instrumental in the placement of the American Flags honoring deceased veterans in downtown Pembroke.

Mr. Bob Quattlebaum was born April 8, 1927 to the late Patrick Eugene and Florence Newton Quattlebaum. Mr. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a military, was a mechanic at Bryan County Motor Co. for over 30 years, and ran the 24 hour wrecker service for the Chevrolet dealership. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Pembroke for over 50 years; served as EMT, first responder and volunteer firefighter for Bryan County for many years. Mr. Quattlebaum was a member of the American Legion and designed and produced the cross flag holders for the American Flags honoring deceased veterans in downtown Pembroke. Mr. Bob was also an expert at woodworking and leatherworking.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in law, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Thursday, July 20, 2017 in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Northside Cemetery.
