Age 95, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Arnold was born in Normandy, TN, the son of the late Jay Gould Arnold and Annie Lee Sharrock Arnold. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Wayland Sherlock Arnold, Alma Laurine Thurmond, Annie Jay Rich, Max Sharrock Arnold and Marjorie Fay Higgins.
He is survived by Dorothy Maynetta Arnold his loving wife of 74 years; son, Wayland Ross Arnold (Allison Holland); daughters, Ann Allison Arnold (Joe) and Melissa Thomas (Harry); grandchildren, Christy Bunch, Ben Arnold (Stacey), Bill Thomas (Amy), Jason Arnold (Shawn), Becky Rayburn, Annie Lee Pugh (Kevin), Trey Peck, Angela Alexander (Jeff), Janie Bonds (Matt) and John Arnold; 13 great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Tullahoma High School and was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran who served on the USS Dorsey throughout the War. He married the love of his life in January 1943 while on shore leave. He attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer at only 23 years old. Mr. Arnold retired as president of Nashville Tent and Awning Co. He was a member of the Nolensville United Methodist Church. A member of the Nolensville Lions Club, serving as president and received the Melvin Jones Humanitarian Service Award and was a recipient of the Legends Award from the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Arnold was one of the founders of the Nolensville Utility District.
Burial at the Nolensville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers: Fred Jeffries, Mike Vaden, members of Nolensville Lions Club and Good News Class at the church; and especially his loving caregivers, Kim Speciale, Bessie Morton and Missy Kimble.
