Funeral services for Elonzo Lee Baxter, 81 years of age, were held Sunday, October 28, at 2 p.m. from the Roley Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Bledsoe in charge of the services. Burial was in the Bland family cemetery in Casey County. The pallbearers were nephews: James Baier, Grover, Charles, Lucian and Pat Beard and Harold Bailey. Mr. Baxter, son of the late Charlie and Sallie Smith Baxter, was born December 1, 1870 in Taylor County, Ky. He died Friday, October 26 at the Rosary Hospital in Campbellsville. He had been in ill health for sometime. He professed faith in Christ at an early age in life and joined the Baptist church. He later joined the Roley Christian Church, where he retained his membership until death. He united in marriage to Dina Dora Beard on April 1, 1898. She preceded him in death in 1925. To this union four children were born: Vance Baxter, Route 1, Merrimac; Thelbert Baxter of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Herman Baxter, Route 1, Merrimac. One daughter, Mrs. Hallie Tucker, preceded her father in death in 1929. Mr. Baxter, who was one of 12 children, is also survived by one brother, A. D. Baxter of Campbellsville; three sisters, Mrs. Sallie Sherrill of Marseilles, Ill.; Mrs. J. L. Gaddis of Anderson, Ind.; and Mrs. William Baier of Campbellsville; and many other relatives and friends.
