DODGE CITY-- Pete L. Gomez, 96, died Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Trinity Manor, Dodge City, KS.

He was born May 27,1921 at Hanston, Kansas, the son of Florence C. and Margaret Jane (Harvey) Gomez. He was a 1938 graduate of Hanston High School and attended CCC Camp in Kingsdown before joining the Navy. He served during WWII attaining the rank of Quarter Master 1st Class and was honorably discharged in October 1945 at which time he moved to Dodge City.

He worked in the Parts Department at Broce Construction and in 1969 was the Parts Department General Manager for Maupin Truck Parts until retiring in May of 1986.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Life Member of VFW Post 1724, Life Member of American Legion Post 47, 3rd Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955 and the Moose Lodge all in Dodge City.

On December 14,1942, he married Marcella "Sally" Gerstenkorn at Dodge City,Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 27,2008.

Survivors include: his daughters, Carol Bristow and husband Dennis, Dodge City and Mary Jane Griffiths and husband Bob, Port Saint Lucie, Florida; a half brother, Martin Rowland and wife Donna, Dodge City; 9 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several great great grandchldren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant, son Lewis Pete Gomez, a daughter Sally Ann Stowell, 5 brothers, Cecil, Ted, Mike, Walter and Donald Gomez, a half sister Chrity Duckworth, a granddaughter, Rhonda Walker and a grandson, Randy Fitzsimmons.

Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 9,2017 both at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Thursday at the church with Fr. Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and the United States Navy.
