Michael Pope, age 60, passed away in his sleep on Monday, July 3, 2017.
Born in Holdrege, Nebraska his family relocated to Spokane, Washington in 1965 where he lived the majority of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Donna Pope, as well as his brother Tom Pope.
Mike graduated from West Valley High School in 1975 and went on to get a degree in electronics from Spokane Technical Institute. In 1990 Mike found his dream job as a Service Engineer for Signode for the last 27 years. He was well liked and respected by his coworkers, customers, and vendors alike. At work, as well as in his personal life, Mike made people feel like everything would always be all right. Whatever the problem, Mike would fix it.
In 1997, Mike survived a battle with throat cancer and had suffered a heart attack and three mini-strokes in subsequent years, but never let it slow him down. He was known to all as an incredibly hard worker and would always help anyone in need.
Mike recently relocated to Hillsboro, Oregon, where he met his new wife, Rebecca. They were married on New Year's Day, just this year. Mike had a new lease on life and felt he was on top of the world. His death was a shock to us all. He was an amazing man, generous to a fault, selfless, and kind. He even donated his body to science so they could learn more about the effects of radiation on the human body and new ways to treat cancer. He was always teaching and helping others, even now after his death.
Mike was a family man and his life revolved around those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca and their two daughters Shannon and Cheyenne, as well as his sisters Jane Maines of Toledo, OR, Sue (Derrick) Morris of Salinas, CA, and Sharon (Ken) Vasconcelos of Spokane, WA, Mike's four daughters all from Spokane: Sara Vargas, Michelle (Dave) Dorgan, Melissa (Ryan) Dravland, and Kelly Pope, along with his grandchildren: Alisen, Alexandra, Andrew, Jacob, Jaelyn, Michael, Austin, Hunter, and William.
Celebration of Life will be held on July 23, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Combat Vet Riders Clubhouse, 2405 North Dick Rd, Spokane Valley, Washington. Condolences may be left for Mike on legacy.com. Donations accepted in lieu of flowers in Rebecca Pope's name thru Key Bank, Oregon, account #370072083857, to help assist in the expenses associated with his passing.
