3rd son of Joseph C Greer & Charlotte Harmon, Ed was 16 yrs old when his brothers & half brother were killed in Arkansas. At 17 he enlisted in the W.P.Lane Rangers, and served the Confederacy under the command of the Texas Cavalry. Aug 23, 1965 Ed married Melinda Elizabeth Shipman(1845-1868), Orrin Alexander Greer was only child of this marriage. 2nd marriage of Ed Feb 4, 1872, to Sarah-Betts Williams, widow of Pugh Lamothe Williams. Children of this marriage are Nannie Greer/Halbison, Eugene Bruce Greer, Lena Rivers Greer/Bridges, Joseph Betts Greer & Stephen W "Tip" Williams(by Sarah's first marriage)
On the 3rd of Dec, 1878, Lewis Cooper-JP of County and Edward Bruce Greer, were both shot & killed in Pattison by John O Greer, nephew of Ed. The grave of the former Ranger himself is in the old Greer Family Cemetery. No markers have endured.
