Maria was born December 28, 1922 in Elkhart, Indiana to Swedish immigrants Adolph and Selma Swanson.
She studied journalism and was Public Relations Director for the Alaska-Pacific division of Pan American World Airways.
Maria was an award-winning feature writer/photographer for the Virginia Gazette. She served as Executive Director of the Williamsburg-James City County Bicentennial Committee, coordinating numerous events surrounding the 1976 celebrations, and also served as Public Relations Assistant for the Yorktown Bicentennial. She was a hostess-guide for Colonial Williamsburg and a conference consultant for the National Center for State Courts in Williamsburg.
Maria is survived by five grown children, her husband Roger A. Anderson, thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
