Larry "Maddy" Madison

All good things must end…. Larry Eber Madison, age 89 years, died peacefully on Friday evening, April 10, 2015, at St. Mary’s of Standish skilled nursing. Heaven called for one of the finest. Larry was born on March 28th, 1926 to Ione (Westfall) and Lawrence Christian Madison. Upon his mother’s passing, he was raised lovingly by his grandparents, the Eber Westfalls. At age three, his father married Mayme Dewey Madison who welcomed Larry into her life as a new son. Upon graduating from Flint Northern, Larry was drafted into the army to serve in WWII. Earning his Combat Infantry Badge was one of Larry’s most prized accomplishments. He served in Central Europe, embracing multitudes of fellow men as his brothers, as they liberated France. Serving in WWII allowed him to attend Central Michigan University where he fell in love with Eloise Marsh Lodewyk. They married on June 22, 1951. Larry taught at Arenac Eastern, Boyne City, and Standish-Sterling High Schools, where he touched many lives.

Larry is survived by his wife, Eloise; two sons and two daughters: Paul (Linda) Madison, Mio; Laura (Dr. Lawrence) LaLonde, Saginaw; Gayle (Bruce) Hendy, Higgins Lake; and Eric (Dawn) Madison, Bay City; grandchildren Stephanie (Matt) Vink, Grand Haven; Kendra (Brian) Ward, Castailia, Ohio; Larry LaLonde, Saginaw; Loren (Dr. Hester Graves) LaLonde, Cheverly, Maryland; Capt. Lindsey LaLonde, D.D.S. (Katie Carroll), Sackets Harbor, New York; Cheyenne Luzynski, Ann Arbor; Kenneth (Julianne) Luzynski, Vienna, Austria; great-grandchildren Eric and Baylee Ward; Hunter and Mackenzie Vink; brother Robert (Bernice) Madison, Bellaire; and several grand dogs and grand cats. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Vivian (Del) Wenzel. Memorial service will be Saturday, April 18 at Lee Ramsey Funeral Chapel in Standish, Devin Chisholm presiding.. Visitation 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Standish-Sterling Scholarship Fund. Larry’s family would like to extend a special thank you for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Muhammed Mirza, and the staffs of Horizon Senior Living, St. Mary’s of Standish Hospital, and Skilled Nursing Center.
