Oscar Barton Allen

Oscar Barton Allen was born on February 19, 1927 in Littlefield, Texas. His family lived in Cotton Center where he graduated high school. He served in the United States Army stationed in Japan. Following his discharge, he attended Texas Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While attending Texas Tech he was a Tech Cheerleader, President of Texas Tech Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Centaur Social Club. After graduating from Texas Tech he married Janetta Gay Gipson on November 31, 1951 in Brownfield, Texas. Shortly after they were married he was called again to serve his country in the Korean War; this time he served two years in the United States Marine Corp. After his discharge they moved to Cotton Center, where he farmed until 1984. He was a co-owner of Allen & Beach Farm Store & Fuel Supply. He was a crop adjuster for Rain and Hail Insurance Company for 18 years. He was a member of the Cotton Center First Baptist Church. Oscar was also a charter member of the Cotton Center Club where he served as secretary and Lion Boss, and a charter member of the Cotton Center Fire Department and Cotton Center Water Cooperation. He was a member of the Cotton Center School Board and served as president for 11 years. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Hale Center, where he was past worshipped Master and received his 50 years pin. He was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. EB Allen; two brothers, Jim Allen of Santa Rosa, CA and Jason Allen of Lubbock, TX. He is survived by his wife, Janetta Gay Allen; daughter, Sherry Robertson and husband Bruce of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Eric Allen and wife Leigh of Keller, TX; two grandsons, Chase and Mitchell Allen. Visitation will be Monday, July 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in the Abbey Chapel in Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
