GOSHEN, IN - Leola Grace Kauffman, 96, of Goshen, formerly of Middlebury, died at 8:12 am, on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Greencroft Health Care Center, Goshen. She was born on November 29, 1920, in Shipshewana, to Levi and Loretta (Miller) Berkey.
On March 8, 1947 in Shipshewana, she married Melvin S. Kauffman, he died September 23, 1988.
Surviving are three daughters, Janice (Bob) Tossava of Hastings, MI, Phyllis Gingerich of Colorado Springs, CO, Karen (Dave) Perkins of Goshen; son, Donald (Deb) Kauffman of Middlebury; eleven grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, Merlin Gingerich; one sister; and six brothers.
She was a homemaker and a member of Forks Mennonite Church in Middlebury. She was active in WMSC and volunteered at the Whistle Stop in Goshen. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, and gardening. She handmade quilts for all of her children, grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of both her family and her husband’s family.
Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday, July 17, 2017 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 also at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by Pastor Phil Yoder.
Memorials may be given to Whistle Stop in Goshen.
