Robert E. Styer, Sr., 83, of Carey, passed Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 12:32 a.m. in the emergency room of Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

He was born January 14, 1934 in Leesburg Township, Union County, Ohio to Mabel E. (Styer) Savidge. His step-father was W. Foster Savidge.

He was married on January 16, 1955 to Dorothy V. Wood in Kenton, Ohio. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2017.

Surviving are his children: Victor (Kathy Brown) Styer, Carey, Nanette Styer, Dayton, Kay (Lindsey) Melching, Powell, Keith (Sandy Overbee) Styer, Carey and Robert E. Styer, Jr., Carey, four grandchildren: Dr. Michael R. (Nicki Rockentine) Holmes, Kansas City, MO, Kyle J. Holmes, Cleveland, Seth T. Holmes, Dublin and Samantha J. Styer, Carey and one great grandchild, Harper E. Brooks, Carey.

Preceding him in death was his mother, step-father, brother, Paul A. Styer and infant sister.

He grew up in Kenton and graduated from Kenton High School in 1951. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1954 on the U.S.S. Toledo. He was a member of Toastmasters and the P.T.A.. After he got married in 1955, they lived in Findlay until 1971, when they moved to Carey.

During his working life, he was a Kroger manager, owner of the Sterling Dairy Store and Rose Villa Restaurant, a salesman for American Greeting Corp., and a cook for O.H. Materials where he was affectionately known as "Biscuit Bob."

Friends and family will be from noon to 2:00pm on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at STOMBAUGH-BATTON FUNERAL HOME, Carey. The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm on Saturday, with Pastor Dave Welsh officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Carey Honor Guard immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial of he and his wife will be in Spring Grove Cemetery at a later date.
