Sophronia Ann Franks was born in Pembroke, 11 January 1845, the daughter of Rebecca H. Franks, and granddaughter of Robert Franks and Lucia Clapp.

She married in Middleborough, 8 Jan. 1863, John Angier Pierce. She died in Middleborough, 15 May 1865.

Her husband John Angier Pierce was described in records as the "mulatto" son of Angier Pierce (a white man from Swansea, Rehoboth and Taunton, Mass.) and Susan Boston (a woman with African and Native American ancestry from Swansea and Rehoboth, Mass.).

John A. and Sophronia A. (Franks) Pierce rented a house from the Gibbs family at the intersection of Miller St. and Gibbs Pl. in Middleborough. Prior to his marriage to Sophronia A. Franks, John Angier Pierce had lived in the house in the late 1850s and early 1860s with his mother Susan (Boston) (Pierce) Francis, the widow of Rochester Indian Frank Francis.

They had the following children, b. Middleborough:
Eliza Annie Pierce, b. 22 Oct. 1863, d. Hingham 13 Oct. 1910, m. Henry W. Winslow.
Angie Hattie Susan Pierce, b. 26 April 1865, d. Norwell 11 Aug. 1874.
