He enlisted in Capt. Singleton's company 5 April 1777. On 23 Feb 1779 he was promoted to lieutenant under Capt. James Triplett of the Westmoreland militia. He was honorably discharged in Morristown NJ on 10 March 1780 while Gen. Washington was making his winter encampment there. By 1784 he had received the balance of pay due him.

While traveling from Virginia to Kentucky, he died at the age of 40 at Great Crossings, in Scott County. His estate was probated in Boone County, KY. Probate records show he was a resident of Kentucky at the time of his death. He was the father of six children.
