Eugenia (Gene) Koiner Garst Smith, 86, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Berkshire Health & Rehabilitation Center in Vinton, VA. The daughter of the late Chan and Evelyn (Coyner) Garst, she was born May 11, 1931, in San Francisco, CA.
She grew up in Waynesboro, VA. She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and Dunsmore Business School in Staunton. She was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Charles W. (Bill) Smith.
Surviving are her daughters, Katey Smith Lewis and husband Troy of Wichita Falls, Texas, Amy Smith Callaway and husband Bryan of Roanoke, VA; grandsons, Declan Lewis and Spencer Callaway; and granddaughter, Juliann Callaway.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 18th, at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Crimora. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, officiated by the Rev. Tim Bohlmann. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening, July 17, 2017, at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Memorials may be made in her name, in lieu of flowers, to Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or Good Samaritan Hospice at 2408 Electric Rd., Roanoke, VA. 24018.
