Robert James “Bob” Gibson, Sr. of Effingham, formerly of Red Bud, IL, passed away at his home on Friday, July 14, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born August 18, 1929, in Chicago, the son of William (Ray) and Loretta (McCarthy) Gibson. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Helen, son Robert Jr. (Christy) of Glasford, IL, daughter Jodi (Tim) Schlink of Effingham, nine grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter Rhonda, his parents, and seven siblings.

Bob was a member of Local 17, Heat and Frost Insulators, Chicago, for 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War. Bob was the ultimate handyman; there was no job he wouldn’t tackle. He loved to golf, and he and Helen had some wonderful friends in Red Bud who they spent countless hours with at the country club. He also loved time spent with his growing family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday July 17, 2017 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham. Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
