Asa was born in Maine about 1823. First found in Elgin, IL. on the 1850 census with his wife Catherine & children: Fedelia, Anna, & Joseph.
The family moved to Keso, Sibley county MN. in July 1856 along with his friend Jonathan Mills and his wife Laura Wheaton Mills and were neighbors. Asa Cobb and Laura Wheaton Mills ran off together in late 1859 to WI. where a son Charles was born July 8, 1860. DNA test by Charles grandson Roger Cobb proved he was a Mills and not a Cobb.
