Marion completed Dunbar High School, Washington, DC and subsequently graduated from Howard University where she received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Music Education. She obtained a Master of Arts in Music from Teachers College at Columbia University.
Marion worked as a teacher at Howard University and in the elementary schools in Fairfax County, VA and the District of Columbia. She was appointed principal of Mott Elementary School in 1973 and then onto LaSalle Elementary School until her retirement in 1988.
Marion was married to the late Charles Ross in 1952. She was preceded in death by both her husband and daughter, Marianne (Ross) Onabiyi.
Marion Thompkins Ross is survived by her niece, Barbara Simmons; cousin, Naida Kalloo and Troy Singletary, a close devoted ''family member.''
The Mass will be held at St. Mary''s Episcopal Church, 728 23rd St., NW, Washington, DC 20037 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary''s Church choir, Howard University College of Medicine scholarship fund or Children''s National Medical Center.
