Wanda Lee Burgess Lowe, age 85, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born to the late Fuller Burgess and Annie Broyles Burgess on May 12, 1932, in Chuckey, Tennessee. Possessing the gift of hospitality, Wanda was an expert homemaker who valued the gifts of life especially her family and her church. She was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church and played an active role in several ministries during her lifetime including Vacation Bible School, the Shalom Singers, the WMU, and, most recently, the Senior Adult Program. In addition to her parents, Wanda was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jake Lowe; and son-in-law, Don Nixon. She is survived by two sons, Tim Lowe and wife, Jane of Ft. Myers, Florida and Steve Lowe and wife, Mary Lynne of Abingdon, Virginia; daughter, Cathe Nixon of Newnan, Georgia; four grandchildren, Adam Lowe, Jordan Nixon, Andrew Lowe and wife, Hannah, and T.J. Lowe; and a great granddaughter, Waylynn Lowe. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Abingdon Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Poole officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where pallbearers will be the immediate family. The Council of Deacons of Abingdon Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday at Abingdon Baptist Church prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 W.
