She is survived by her three children, Warren (Nancy) Jones, Susan (Tony) Carretta, and Robert Jones. She was the grandmother (affectionately known as "GeeSue") of Marcy, Adrienne, Michael and Mark, and the great-grandmother of Alexis, Ava, Casey and Taylor. Ruth and her sister Ruby (referred to as the "T's") were the second oldest of nine children, all now deceased: Dr. Ferman Bishop, Hillary Bishop, John Robert Bishop, David Bishop, Neal Bishop, Marion Bishop, and Mary (Bishop) Corn.
Ruth was graduated from Landrum High School, and was an alumnus of Spartanburg Junior College, Lander College, and Marywood University. She was a Special Education teacher for the Tunkhannock School District, and even after retiring from that position, she continued as a substitute teacher in the district until she was eighty years old. In her later years she and Howard and their family enjoyed numerous peaceful summers at their lake house at Lake Carey with their wonderful neighbors, the Rohmer and the Kelly families.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews living throughout the country from New Jersey to the Carolinas to Florida and to California.
Ruth was ever so active, lovingly baking and providing wonderful holiday meals for family and friends. She was a devoted member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, and a treasured member of her community.
