Ruth B. Jones, just shy of 94 years of age, wife of the late Howard Jones, of Tunkhannock and Lake Carey, PA., passed away on July 12, 2017. Ruth, along with her identical twin sister, the late Ruby B. Pagano, was born in Landrum, S.C. to the late Ferman and Sue Sligh Bishop.
She is survived by her three children, Warren (Nancy) Jones, Susan (Tony) Carretta, and Robert Jones. She was the grandmother (affectionately known as "GeeSue") of Marcy, Adrienne, Michael and Mark, and the great-grandmother of Alexis, Ava, Casey and Taylor. Ruth and her sister Ruby (referred to as the "T's") were the second oldest of nine children, all now deceased: Dr. Ferman Bishop, Hillary Bishop, John Robert Bishop, David Bishop, Neal Bishop, Marion Bishop, and Mary (Bishop) Corn.
Ruth was graduated from Landrum High School, and was an alumnus of Spartanburg Junior College, Lander College, and Marywood University. She was a Special Education teacher for the Tunkhannock School District, and even after retiring from that position, she continued as a substitute teacher in the district until she was eighty years old. In her later years she and Howard and their family enjoyed numerous peaceful summers at their lake house at Lake Carey with their wonderful neighbors, the Rohmer and the Kelly families.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews living throughout the country from New Jersey to the Carolinas to Florida and to California.
Ruth was ever so active, lovingly baking and providing wonderful holiday meals for family and friends. She was a devoted member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, and a treasured member of her community.
Funeral services will be held Sat. at 11am from the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home 123 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock with Pastor Jon Buxton from the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church officiating. A viewing will be held from 10am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery. For online condolences or direction visit www.aplitwinfuneralhomes.com.
