Maria Raunik was born in Slovenia. Her husband Adolph Baumann was born in Mährisch Ostrau (Moravia). Both places were under the Austrian Empire when they immigrated to America. In the 1910 US Census for Pittsburgh, Adolph's birthplace is listed as Austria-Moravia, and Maria's is listed as Austria-Slovenia. Maria (Raunik) Baumann's parents, Joseph and Louise Raunik and family are listed two households above them, all from Austria-Slovenia.

The family name Raunik has been spelled differently in almost every document I've come across. The traditional spelling in Slovenian is "Raunik" but family members spelled it differently among themselves. One brother spelled in Rankin, which was different than all the other family members but it was easier for his business associates to remember. I did the research for my brother-in-law whose grandmother spelled it Raunik.
