Thomas R. Bennett died on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at his private residence in Washington, WV. He was born in Wood County on December 11, 1942, the son of the late Earnest C. and Ora K. (Hannah) Bennett. After graduation from Parkersburg High School in 1961, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in November of 1961 having served during the Vietnam era and honorably discharged in March of 1966 at the rank of Lance Corporal.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Bennett; daughter, Theresa Athey (Fred) of Washington, WV; son, Tom "T.R." Bennett II (Robyn) of Charleston, WV; sister, Carol Hart of Parkersburg; a special brother in-law, Bob Leep of Front Royal,VA and Ivan Barker (Sue) of Mineral Wells; special sister in-law and niece, Ruth and Melissa Wilson of Parkersburg, WV; five grandchildren, (Jennifer-Michael-Ryan-Brendan & Kevin); one great-granddaughter, (Aurora) and several nieces and nephews. Sister in-law, Barb Vitruls (Jerry) and sister in-law, Darlene Kent.

In addition to his parents Thomas was preceded in death by one son at birth, Jonathan Wayne Bennett; sister, Sylvia "Sib" Leep; brothers, Earl and Delbert Bennett; and mother in-law, Juanita Ritchie.

He retired from GE Plastics (formerly Borg Warner) Washington, WV. plant in 2001. He was a dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather who was willing to help his friends and neighbors whenever asked. He helped build and dedicate the Parkersburg Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with Elder Glenn Cottrill and Elder Jacob Cottrill officiating. Interment will follow at Independence Cemetery in Jackson County. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. American Legion Post #15 of Parkersburg will present military honors to begin the services on Friday.
