Mrs. Nellie Ruth McCain Cullars, a resident of Elam Community, Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the age of 100. She was born November 19, 1916 at South Friendship.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 14, 2017, at 11:00 am from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Carrville Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Cullars is survived by her sister, Vivian McCain Anderson and the following nieces and nephews; Grover Clinton McCain Jr., Susan McCain Apple, Andrew McCain, Judy McCain Abrams, Ginger McCain Hawley, Bennett Jackson (Jackie) McCain, Miriam McCain McDaniel, Charles Judson Mann, Vicky Lane Anderson, Donna “Boo” Rawson and other much loved great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cullars is preceded in death by her husband, Aaron M. “Doc” Cullars; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Clinton McCain; two brothers; Thomas “T.I.” Irving McCain, Grover Clinton McCain and sister, Mary Katherine “Kitty” Mann.

Mrs. Cullars graduated from Tallassee High School in 1934 and held degrees from Troy State College and Auburn University. Nellie taught third grade at Rawls School in Covington County for three years. Then she taught at Reeltown primary grade school in Tallapoosa County for 38 years. Mrs. Cullars was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary group for women teachers.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 14, 2017, from 10:00am until service time at Jeffcoat Funeral Home, Tallassee, Alabama.
