Mrs. R.B. Glenn Passes Away in Hospital After Extended Illness.
Beloved Woman.
Well Known in the City and Section.

Mrs. Nina Deaderick Glenn, 72, 814 Carolina Avenue, widow of former Governor R.B. Glenn, passed away yesterday at noon at a local hospital following an illness of several weeks. Her immediate family was at the bedside when the end came.

Mrs. Glenn was one of the best loved women in the city and was known for her Christian character and active church work. She was born in Jonesboro, Tenn., September 4, 1854, the daughter of late J.F. and Rebecca Williams Deaderick.
She spent her childhood days in that community, later marrying R.G. Glenn. She and her husband, who was then a prominent lawyer, came here in 1885.

Mrs. Glenn was first lady of the State from 1905 until 1909 when her husband was Chief Executive of North Carolina. Here she made many friends with her simple Christian ways.

She spent her later years in this city and was actively connected with the First Presbyterian Church as a member of the congregation and as a worker in the various missionary circles. She was one of the organizers of the first
benevolent societies of the city.

Mrs. W.C. Wright, friend of the deceased for the past forty years and who possibly knew her better than anyone 4else, says the following about Mrs. Glenn. "She was always deeply interested in the intellectual advancement of the community. Her home was always open to all religious conventions and ministers of all denominations at the same time adding greatly to the pleasure of her loved ones and friends socially. True Christian hospitality reigned supreme. She adhered to the simple tastes of life - her home, family, church and friends were the center of her heart's desire and sacred interest."

Surviving are one son, Chalmers L. Glenn of this city; one daughter, Mrs. D.E. Hoffman of Mt. Airy; one brother, T.O. Deaderick of Weaverville; three grandchildren, Chalmers L. Glenn, Jr., of this city, Nina Glenn Hoffamn and Mary Engle Hoffman of Mt. Airy; and several other more distant relatives.
