Bryce Elmer “Ash” Ashenfelder died peacefully Monday, July 10, 2017, at Hospice Maria Hall, Danville. Bryce was born April 26, 1926, and was the son of the late Atwood A. and Cora Marie (Renner) Ashenfelder. He resided in Berwick (Beach Haven) for 60 years and was previously from the Milton area.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jennie Elizabeth (Oberlin).
Bryce entered the Navy at 18 years of age and served three years in World War II in the Pacific on a destroyer escort ship.
Bryce worked for the Sutter Corporation of Berwick for 28 years and retired from Bloom Penn Contractors in 1989.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Lee, Allen, Robert, Edsel, Paul and Marvin; one sister, Elinor; as well as one granddaughter, Crystal Ashenfelder.
In addition to his wife, Jennie, he has three surviving sons: Ronald (Jane) Ashenfelder, Berwick, Dennis (Debra) Ashenfelder, Stillwater, and Bruce (Blanche) Ashenfelder, Berwick. Surviving siblings are Wayne (Jane) Ashenfelder of Allenwood, and Marion (Raymond) Croman of Pottsgrove. Bryce had six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bryce loved fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Services will be held from the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick, with Pastor Jeff Farley presiding, on Saturday, July 15. Visitors will be received from 2 p.m. to the start of the service at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
