James Alexander Allen, son of Schuyler C. Allen and Isabelle ("Belle") Murphy, married Lavina Edwina Crisler, daughter of Franklin ("Frank") M. Crisler and Mary Alice Higgins, on September 22, 1916, in Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri; they were married until his death. The couple had five children, namely:

Maxine Edwina (Allen) Carnes (1917-2007),
Mardell Lavina (Allen) Boyd (1919-1995),
James Schuyler Allen (1922-1999),
Gerald Gene Allen (1926-2010), and
Darrel Dene Allen (1926-2012).

EL PASO HERALD-POST; El Paso, El Paso County, Texas; Wednesday, May 19, 1943:
"James Alexander Allen died last night at his home at 3020 Wheeling street. He was 48 and had been a resident of El Paso for 12 years.
Survivors are his parents Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Allen of Pittsburg, Kan.; his wife, Mrs. Levina [sic-Lavina] Allen; three sons, Gerald, Darrell and James; and two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Carnes and Mrs. Mardell Boyd, all of El Paso; two brothers, Claude of Pittsburgh and Lawrence [sic-Clarence] of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Gedney of Independence, Mo.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Kaster and Maxon."
