Born in Pawtucket in 1925, John was the oldest son of the late Thomas J. Baldwin and Mary Margaret (Wright) Baldwin.
He graduated from St. Raphael Academy in 1943. He proudly served in The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC). A skilled pilot, John was navigating a mission to the Pacific when word came that the war had ended. After the war, John returned to Rhode Island and married the love of his life, Dorothy (Daley) Baldwin, R.N., of Barrington, in 1947. He received his Chemistry Degree from Providence College and went on to receive his Masters from Boston University. An early pioneer of The Polymer Sciences, John started his career at US Rubber in Providence, R.I. He then went on to Co-Found Poly Vinyl Films, Inc. and Indusol, Inc, both in Sutton, MA.
John and his wife Dorothy were never far from each other. As avid golfers they were longtime members of both Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln and Point Judith Country Club in Narragansett, where they could often be found on the course together. They had been summer residents of Little Comfort Island in Narragansett since 1957, a place they and their family hold dear. When not on the golf course they could always be found there, together.
John is survived by his son, John W. Baldwin, Jr. of Narragansett, his son James R. (Deborah) Baldwin of Narragansett, and his son, Robert N. Baldwin of Southborough, MA. His Grandchildren, Jody (Chad) Stone, John (Marya) Baldwin, Jessica (Corey) Martin, Robert Baldwin, Jr., Daley Baldwin, Daniel Baldwin, Keelan Baldwin, and his eight great-grandchildren: Virginia, Everett, Vivian, Emerson, Margaret, Amory, Blythe and Dorothy.
John was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Joanne Baldwin Monahan and his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorothy.
