Beverly J. Graves, of Dyer, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 9, 2017, after a short illness. She enjoyed 98 years of wonderful health. She was born on June 2, 1919 in Lafayette, IN. to Dr. Deo M. and Nina (Hoffman) Lowden. She married Melvin L. Graves on September 15, 1940. She is survived by, her sister Patricia (Jay) Cedarleaf; sons: Jeffery, Dexter, and Mark Graves; daughters: Pamela Paradise and Joyce (James) Lambert; sons-in-law: Larry Myers, Jerry Vargo; 24 grandchildren, and 51 great grandchildren (so far). Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Deo and Nina Lowden; her husband, Melvin L. Graves; her sister Gretta (LaVerne) Thornton; and daughters: Peggy Myers and Gayle Vargo. Beverly was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hammond, IN, for 58 years. She was a faithful member of the Women's Missionary Society, the Adult Church Choir, and taught Sunday School in the Deaf Department (where she learned sign language) for many years. A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor John Wilkerson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Hammond (Jack Hyles Auditorium) at 523 Sibley Street, Hammond, IN. Calling will be at the same location on Friday, July 14, 2017, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 15, 2017, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Memory Lane Memorial Park, 6305 W. Lincoln Hwy, Crown Point, IN.
