Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Catherine Roberts (1835-1925)

Mrs. Catherine Roberts, a resident of Richmond for the past thirty-six years, died at her home on Parnell Street Saturday [5 Sept 1925] morning between 1:30 and 2 o'clock, at the age of 90 years and 2 months.

Mrs. Roberts has been a sufferer from cancer for a number of years, which was the cause of her death. Mrs. Roberts was born in South Wales, July 4, 1835. She came to this country seventy-one years ago (1854), crossing the waters on a sailing vessel, requiring three weeks and five days to make the voyage. After arriving in America she settled in Pennsylvania, later moving to Ohio.

In 1878 she, with her husband, moved to Macon County, MO. They went to Colorado from there, returning to Macon County, and came to Richmond thirty-six years ago (1889), where she has resided since that time. After coming to this city her husband, John J. Evans died.

Several years later she was united in marriage to William Roberts*, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Ben C. Evans, of this city, and numerous other relatives. For several years Mrs. Roberts has lived by herself, adjacent to the home of her son. Mr. Evans had visited her Friday night, in fact had always been very attentive to his mother. She was feeling about as usual that night. Upon calling at her home early Saturday morning her son found her dead.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at her home at 3 o'clock, conducted by the Latter Day Saints, of which denomination Mrs. Roberts was a member. Burial occurred at the city cemetery.
