Virginia Beach, VA- Betsy Gainfort Berry
 
Betsy Gainfort Berry, 63, passed away July 3, 2017. She was the daughter of the late James William Gainfort, Jr and Betty Carr Ball Gainfort. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Cornell Berry, Jr

A native, and lifelong resident of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, she was an active member of Spring Branch Community Church. She graduated from Maury High School and Longwood College. She previously managed her late husband, Cornell Berry’s, dental practice and in her later years, worked as a Tour Director with Phillips Tours. She played an integral role in Orphan Network and Frontier Horizon.  This role allowed her to devote her life to improving the lives of underprivileged children in orphanages in both the Ukraine and Nicaragua.

To all those who knew Betsy, she will be remembered for her dedication to her daughter, strong faith, devotion to non-profit work, love for her many friends, and courageous strength.  She was an all- around athlete who could always be found either playing tennis or golf.  She also loved skiing, going to the beach, and gardening.  She had many passions and had a true zest for life which was contagious.

Betsy is survived by (NAMES REDACTED) , as well as a multitude of treasured friends that she also called family.

A Memorial Service celebrating Betsy’s life will be held at Spring Branch Church, Virginia Beach, Va, on Friday, July 7 at 3:00 PM with reception to follow.

“Betsy’s Kids”
In July of 2017, friends of Betsy Gainfort Berry established “Betsy’s Kids” in order to honor and perpetuate her long time work with children. It is a program funded by donations, designed to assist kids who have a desire to go on a Mission Trip to orphanages in Nicaragua and the Ukraine, but are not able to fully afford the cost of the trip.

Betsy was profoundly impacted by the children on her first trip and returned home inspired and committed to maintaining her involvementand with the children. For the next twenty years, she remained an integral figure to to the children and passionately devoted much of her time working to improve their lives, living conditions and general well-being.

The mission of the program is to provide an opportunity to others who might also be impacted as Betsy was and return motivated to continue working for the betterment of the lives of less fortunate children.
