Elizabeth “Ann” Royster, 79, of Durham, died on Thursday evening, July 6, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born in Washington, DC to the late W.H. and Mabel Strickland.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Louis Royster. She was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend.
Until her retirement on January 2, 2017, Mrs. Royster worked at Nichols Bookkeeping and Tax Service. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and the Ruth Gleaners Sunday School Class whom she adored.
Mrs. Royster is survived by her daughters, Debbie Churchill and husband, Reid of Durham, Jackie Yarbrough of Belmont and husband, David. She has two grandchildren who were the love of her life; Jeremy Churchill and wife, Anne of Charlotte, and Alison Yarbrough of Belmont. She is also survived by a brother, Howard Strickland and wife, Margaret of Lillington; special nieces, Paula Parker and Dena Collins and their families.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Durham Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Denton and Dr. Gerald Goodwin officiating. A visitation will be held from 2 to 3:30 pm prior to the service at the church. A private family graveside service will be held on Monday at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
