"Nathaniel Parks was born 25 Oct 1788 in Laurens district, SC, received a common school education, and 14 Feb 1815 married Mary, daughter of John Meador, Sr., of Laurens district, born 8 Feb 1796. Mr. Parks was a volunteer private in the SC militia, War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. He moved to Benton, now Calhoun Co., AL, in 1833. His occupation was farming. He was a member and deacon of the Baptist Church. He died 27 Aug 1850. Mrs. Parks and some of her children left AL about 1852 and settled at or near Lexington, Lee Co., TX. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allen (Louisa Jane Parks - married John Seaborn Allen), near Lexington, 19 Mar 1856, a faithful and consistent member of the Baptist Church." Nathaniel Parks and Mary Meador had 12 children - William Thomas, Robert M., John Covington, Mary Elizabeth, Laruasy Ann, Pyrena Harriet, Nancy Permelia, Emily Caroline, Louisa Jane, James Hamilton, Lucitta H., and Francis Marion - between November 3, 1815 and March 11, 1839.
