He was born and baptized on April 23, 1863 per St. Irenaeus Church in Lyons (now part of Clinton), Iowa.

Not much is known about him except that he was a Prize Fighter and a gentle and loving man. He never married before 1913 as he took care of his mother.
When his sister, Kate, got married and moved to Orville, California, their mother moved with her. This gave Thomas the opportunity to find the love of his life.

Tom married Catherine Shanahan on August 4, 1913 in St. Patrick's Church in Omaha, Nebraska. It was a double wedding with Catherine's niece, Mary Philomena Shanahan Dunavan.

Tom died on April 11, 1919 at the Shanahan home on 1412 Martha Street in Omaha, Nebraska where he lived during the marriage to Catherine. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Omaha. The cemetery states he was buried with the Daniel Shanahan family plot but doesn't give death information. His paperwork is filed with his parents (Thomas and Mary Cramer Kelly) family plot in Holy Sepelchre Cemetery in Omaha. The cemetery records state that he died of "pcsea."
