Actress. Born Elisa Tia, she was best known to the American film audience for her "breakout" role in the 1955 film "The Indian Fighter" opposite Kirk Douglas. She began her career as a model, appearing in the pages of Vogue and on the front cover of Life. In 1953 she started her acting career by appearing in the film "Se vincessi cento milioni". A year later, her role in the French film "Le Rouge et le Noir" got her noticed by European audiences. Actor Kirk Douglas' wife also noticed her and approached her about playing a role in the film "The Indian Fighter", in which he was producing. She accepted and this role helped her become well known to the American film audidence. While she famously passed up a role in the 1960 film "Spartacus" to have her daughter Cristiana, she would continue to have a prosperous career on the screen and appeared in over forty films including "Hatari!" (1962), "The V.I.P.s" (1963), "The 10th Victim" (1965) and "Madigan’s Millions" (1968). She would also go on to television with such credits as "The Rogues", "Return of the Saint", "Alles Glück dieser Erde", and "Orgoglio".
