LANETT - Mr. Wallace Barker Jr., 78, of Lanett died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are planned for Friday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Lanett with the Rev. Louis Upshaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Ocie L. Barker of Lanett; two daughters, Daynelle (Percy) Kimbrough of Bulverede, Texas and Cynthia (Tommy) Barrow of Valley; three sons, Willie J. Barker and Dudley (Denise) Barker, both of Lanett, and Bradley Barker of Atlanta; four sisters, Mary B. Williams and Louvenia Barnes, both of Lanett, Magdalene Combs of Highland Park, Mich., and Frances Fears of Southfield, Mich.; one brother, Willie F. (Marion) Barker of Lanett; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Barker was born April 14, 1929 in Chambers County. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church of Lanett, where he served faithfully on the deacon board, as the lawn service provider and on the benevolence committee, as well as other activities. He was involved in the community, where he served in various capacities, including the Community Reaction, the Lanett Police Auxiliary, Valley Rescue Squad, Boy Scout leader and the Huguley Water System Board of Directors. He was employed by WestPoint Pepperell, where he retired after 42 years.
