Irene Stoddard Flint, 96, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born September 27, 1920 in West Point, Utah to Louis Meredith and Lillie Agnes (Flint) Stoddard. She was the oldest of three children. Irene’s childhood included working on their farm thinning beets, planting and picking tomatoes, and working in the hay fields. She attended West Point School and Davis High School.

Her first job was in 1937 while she was a junior in high school. She worked for a golf pro in Salt Lake City, tending his children. She also worked with her mother peeling tomatoes in a cannery called Varney’s in Roy, Utah. She then went to work for Clearfield Navy Supply Depot as a chauffeur in 1944. This was her favorite job. She was also employed at various grocery stores wrapping meat and in the bakery. In 1965, she went to work at Hill Air Force Base working in a warehouse and retired in 1982.

On June 23, 1939, Irene married Joseph Manning Flint in Kaysville, Utah. Together they raised four children: Gary, Carol, Stan and Jolene. They resided most of their married life in South Ogden. After Joseph passed away on August 6, 1998, she moved to Roy, Utah. On November 13, 1999, Irene and Joseph were sealed in the Bountiful LDS Temple.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Irene enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren play sports and participate in various school activities. They spent many hours at the ballpark, basketball gyms, and football stadiums. She was once quoted as saying, “If I had a dollar for every game I have gone to, I’d be a rich woman!” In her younger years, she was involved in bowling leagues and received numerous trophies for her accomplishments. Irene and Joe went on many camping trips but her greatest joy was being with her family. Even in her later years, she would still cook for, and play games with her beloved family.

Irene is survived by her four children: Gary (Mary) Flint, Hooper; Carol Flint, Ogden; Stan (Judy) Flint, Roy; Jolene (Geary) Weyburn, Roy; 17 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 37 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Stoddard, West Point; and one sister, Alta Earl, St. George.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Horizon Hospice for the care they gave to Irene.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Roy North Stake Center, 4300 South 2175 West. The family will meet with friends Tuesday, July 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
