BYERS , Carolyn Brock Carolyn passed away peacefully on May 14, 2008 when she rose above a long illness that took away her ability to breathe. She was born on March 7, 1915 in Stockton, CA where she attended public schools, supplemented by private lessons in Stockton and Hollywood in piano and voice in preparation for a career in grand opera. On July 6, 1941, she married Kenneth Byers , who was her high school sweetheart. He courted her over many years and many miles as each one completed studies and started careers. In Sacramento she first sang as a soloist and later joined her lovely soprano voice with a baritone, Richard Meir. They performed scenes from operas in costume and with stage sets. The duo was very popular in Sacramento and throughout Northern California. In addition to solo concerts in the Crocker Art Museum, she served for 25 years on their Music Board. For 60 years, Carolyn was an active member of the Tuesday Club, where she organized new gardening and drama sections and did book reviews for Club sections and for other women's groups for over 25 years. With Ken, she traveled throughout the world, including taking 33 cruises. Arrangements were made privately by the Trident Society. There will be a celebration of Carolyn's life on June 2, at 3:30 p.m. at the Sacramento Carlton Plaza. Carolyn loved animals, especially cats, so memorials may be made to any charity group serving animals.
