William Francis Godfrey, 77, of Burnsville passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in Morgantown after a long illness.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1931, in Webster Springs, a son of the late Don and Margaret Ball Godfrey.

He was a retired coal miner, mechanic and owner of Godfrey's Grocery Store for 46 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Helda Sue Godfrey; brothers, James, Dick and Shirley Godfrey; sisters, Louise Greathouse, Ann Workman and Leona Godfrey.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha E. Huffman Godfrey of Burnsville; brothers, Pete Godfrey of Copen, Donnie Godfrey of Ashland, Ky., and Charles Godfrey of Michigan; sisters, June Wilson of Sandfork, Kate Shaver of Glenville, and Virginia Crowl of Florida. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, at the Little Kanawha Independent Church in Burnsville with the Rev. Ronzal Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Ball Cemetery at Copen. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
