Jimmy L. Joyner, 72, of Interlachen, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at his residence following a brief illness.

Born in Auburndale, Florida on August 10, 1939, Mr. Joyner had been a resident of Interlachen since December 1998 having come from Williston, Florida. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a former officer of the Auburndale Police Department and had retired from the Florida Highway Patrol after fifteen years of service. He served as the Chief of Police in Williston for two years. Mr. Joyner had also served as a Senior Safety Specialist with the Department of Transportation, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Interlachen, the Free and Accepted Masons Pinehill Lodge #9 in Brooker, the American Association of State Troopers, the Florida Highway Patrol Retiree Association, and the American Legion, post 293, of Interlachen.

Mr. Joyner was preceded in death by his parents, Jarvis L. and Gladys S. Joyner; one daughter, Jennifer Lynne Joyner; and one son, Jeffrey Lee Joyner.

He is survived by his widow of 56 years, Jo Ann Scott Joyner of Interlachen; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Elizabeth Joyner of Ocala; one adopted daughter, Deborah Jean Tankersley of Flagler Beach; two grandchildren, James Scott Joyner and Joshua Robert Joyner, both of Ocala; and numerous cousins.

The memorial service will at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Interlachen with Pastor Tony Clubb officiating. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the memorial service. In honor and celebration of Jimmy’s life, a video tribute will be shown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177.
