Martha Melvina Abney Route 3, West Plains, died Sunday evening at 5:30 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Murdy. She had been confined to her bed for eight months and had been in frail health for four years, suffering from a heart ailment.
Mrs. Abney was born March 12, 1888, at Clear Springs, Mo. She had been a resident of Howell County for seventeen years. She came here from Camp, Ark., where she had made her home for several years. She was the wife of Bert H. Abney of West Plains.
Surviving, besides her husband are seven sons: John of West Plains, Tom of Kansas City, Grover Eureka, Kansas, Hershel, Camp, Ark., Rev. William, West Plains, Loyd, West Plains, and Joe in the Navy stationed at Great Lakes, Mich., and who is home now on leave; two daughters, Mrs. Dollie Murdy and Mrs. Louise Murdy, both of West Plains; two brothers, Nelsce Lee of Willow Springs, Stover Lee of the state of Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Clara Belle Fisher of Pueblo, Colorado; thirty-seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Abney had been a member of the Assembly of God Church for fifteen years.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee both of whom proceeded her in death. Three sisters and two brothers also proceeded her in death.
Funeral services will be tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the Salvation Army Church with Rev. M.A. Widener officiating. Burial I will be in Howell Valley Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Robertson Funeral Home and the body will remain at the funeral home until time for services.
