Kevin Stanton Barrett passed away June 30, 2017, at his home in St. George, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.
Kevin was born June 1, 1956 in Logan, Utah, to goodly parents, Stanton and Beryl Barrett.
He was raised in a loving home, the oldest son of 8 children, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
He was taught the values of faith in God, love, hard work and perseverance.
These values served him his entire life.
Kevin's father was a carpenter so he spent the summers helping his father and brother build homes.
He was an Eagle Scout.
Kevin graduated from Sky View High School.
Kevin served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to Pittsburg, Pa.
He met his sweetheart, Venna Hurren, and they were married in the Ogden Temple on June 10, 1978.
Kevin graduated from Utah State University with a BS degree in Accounting.
He worked for the LDS church as an internal auditor and CPA for a couple years.
He earned an MBA from Indiana University, and a PHD from Virginia Tech University and IT Masters from ASU.
Kevin worked for Appalachian State University for 11 years, Southern Utah University,
and for the past 15 years for Dixie State University as an Accounting and Tax Professor.
He was named "Teacher of the Year" at DSU in 2012.
He taught in innovative ways to help his students apply their knowledge to real life.
Kevin served the community for over 10 years as the VITA (Volunteer Individual Tax Assistance) with his students.
Kevin was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with his family.
He served in many callings and blest the lives of many by his faithful service.
He especially enjoyed Scouting and helping his young men earn their eagle award.
He was passionate about discovering the scriptures and especially enjoyed the teachings of Paul and the Book of Mormon.
He had a strong testimony of the Savior and His gospel.
Kevin and Venna had 6 children, 4 daughters and 2 sons.
He was a family man and enjoyed spending lots of time with them.
He read literally hundreds of books with his children and loved reading as well.
As a family, they spend many weeks each year camping and hiking in some of the most beautiful places in America.
He enjoyed sharing their adventures with dear family and friends as well.
The last 4 years of his life he had narcotizing pancreatitis.
He had multiple surgeries, procedures and hospital stays.
Through it all, he was pleasant, grateful for the blessings, miracles and tender mercies granted him, and full of faith and courage.
He was dearly loved by all who knew him.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Venna, St. George, Utah, and their children, Melinda Smith, Cedar City, Utah, Bonnie and (Ryan) Denison, Midvale, Utah, Amy and (Allen) Richards, St. George, Utah, Jaci and (Mack) Whitehead, St. George, Utah, Scott and (Kammi) Barrett, St. George, Utah and James Barrett, St. George, Utah, and their 9 grandchildren, also his mother, Beryl Barrett, Layton, Utah, and siblings, Carolyn and (Ray) Olsen, Mendon, Utah, (Jane Wade), West Jordan, Utah, Mary and (Curtis) Meats, Hyrum, Utah, Heather and (Darrell) Jensen, Young Ward, Utah, Marciea and (Boyd) Casselman, Kaysville, Utah, Rose and (Dave) Rindlisbacher, Amalga, Utah and Jon Barrett, Layton, Utah.
He is preceded in death by his father, Stanton Barrett, and brother, Mike Barrett.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 8th, at 11:00am at Foremaster Ridge Chapel, 912 South 1740 East, St George, Utah.
Visitation will be Friday, July 7th from 6:00-8:00 and Saturday, July 8th from 9:30-10:45 at the Foremaster Ridge Chapel, 912 South 1740 East, St. George, Utah.
Interment will be at the St. George Cemetery, under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 435-688-8880.

A luncheon for family and friends will be after at the Foremaster Ridge Chapel.
